2023 BBO Provisional Results

Notices

The provisional results for the 2023 Berks, Bucks and Oxon (BBO) Cross Country Championships are now available under the Results section of the website. If there are any queries regarding the results, please can Team Managers send a message via the Contact page selecting the BBO - Results Enquiry subject line.

This year the Championships were held at Newbury Showground on a day of intermittent showers and blustery wind. It was a struggle to get the tents and gazebos erected in some cases. Thankfully no full-blown storm arrived to disrupt the proceedings, so little, if any, damage was incurred. The conditions underfoot were wet and muddy … just about perfect, all things considered!

The decision to combine the junior races to into single age group races given the reduced entry numbers since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic appeared to be generally well-received. The pride of the athletes upon receiving the highly-prized medals was very evident at the awards ceremonies held during the course of the afternoon. A special presentation was also made ahead of the senior athletes' awards ceremony to Maxwell Cowlin (BBO Vice-President) in recognition of his 50 years service and dedication to the BBO Cross Country Association.

The BBO Committee would like to take the opportunity to thank Newbury AC and its club members for hosting this year's Championships and for dealing with the last-minute changes that had to be made on account of the inaccessibility of part of the land originally planned to be used for the courses. The BBO Committee would also like to thank Ray Stevens (Reading AC) for presenting the prizes this year and also Martyn Cartwright (BBO Vice-President) and Maxwell Cowlin (BBO Vice-President) for their attendance, assistance and insights as always. In addition, many thanks are due to all the officials, timekeepers, recorders, marshals and volunteers without whom the Championships simply would not be possible.

The 2024 BBO Championships are now generally held over the third weekend of November and there is no intention for that date to be changed for the foreseeable future, so make a note in your diaries for next year. Advance notices providing updates and the entry forms will be posted on the website and sent out to all clubs via the mailing list in the months leading up to the Championships as usual.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
